There’s no better way to follow up the previous post than with my own personal backyard wedding story. What an amazing experience it was, and I’m still exhausted just thinking about it! My husband and I had planned on a September 2013 wedding, with ample time to plan, and most importantly to him, explore all of our options. You see, he is a real researcher when it comes to well… just about everything.
Enter real life. His mother had been battling a terminal cancer for the past four years. She had made the call to stop treatment. There wasn’t one moment of hestiation. We pushed up the wedding, and with three months to plan, we called on all of our friends. That’s when we started to realize how lucky we were to have some amazingly creative friends.

Eternal thanks to our besties. I hope you are all recovering nicely :)

This is a blast from the past! My apologies I have been a terrible blogger for several months.
Dorothy and Austin’s wedding this August was a wonderful example of how gorgeous backyard weddings can be. Throwing a backyard wedding may seem carefree and simple but there is a lot of complexity when putting on your own wedding in a private space. One major factor- your sans a staff of seasoned professionals that a typical banquet facility provides, and without that you’ve got to figure out how to run the show for yourself. I worked with Dorothy months up to the wedding. She was so super organized, with a handle on every aspect from invitiation design to budgeting, vintage trophy hunting to catering dilemas and resolutions.
It was while working with Dorothy that my husband and I decided to move up our planned Fall 2013 wedding to September. A big  enormous thank you to Dorothy for teaching me wedding planning and execution.
The finished product was simply divine.

I meet some of the best people. Joanne and Joshua started talking about flowers in December for their June wedding so since we had some time I invited them to join me on a visit to the market. We had a great time. I really enjoy bringing people to see all the excitement the flower market has to offer.

Our flowers were recently featured in Wedding Nouveau Fall Issue. Lovely photography by Lindsay Madden Photography.

Congratulations to Joanne and Joshua! It was the greatest pleasure to work with you.

Two days ago marked my one-year anniversary as a florist. Yes, one year ago I got wild and crazy- if you will. I left my salaried position with benefits to learn the trade of floristry. Jumping head first into my own business venture because hey, if you’re going to go big – go big or go home. I wanted to be free, captain of my own ship sailing unchartered waters, doing things my way. I’m stubborn, a risk taker, and an only child so this seems perfectly fitting.  I’ve encountered perfectly smooth seas, friendly faces, experienced the unending amount of support from friends and family. Yes, I believe now each and everyone one of you have helped in one way or the other being my extra set of hands.
It’s so bittersweet. There have been days I’ve played “Against the Wind” one too many times, turned my apartment into a forest, scared my significant other with my messes and worries, and then there are days of creative genius, feelings of liberation, moments of delight, and a great sense of accomplishment.
There’s no clear written message here. As I am out in this crazy sea unsure of what storms are a brewing and what beautiful sunsets I’ll sail into but I just had to write this note as I sit here amidst my messes of ribbon and stems strewn about- possibly just delaying the task of clean up.

With many long tables under the reception tent the bride requested using varying elements such as Mountain Laurel branches for height, long and grounded arrangements, and bud vases. Her mother in law’s collection of gas lanterns were the perfect table decoration.

This past month we traveled to a truly beautiful venue called Darlington Hall in North Salem, NY. The wedding aesthetic was a blend of Brooklyn bespoke and American Rustic which blended perfectly with the beautiful English gardens on the grounds.

Yay! Dahlias are here.

This week I had the amazing opportunity to create arrangements for the launch party of Curations, a new fragrance by Stefani Greenfield.
